All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother

Of all the flowery poets you might have expected to suggest the above, the source, much more pragmatic in life, might surprise you. These are the words of Abraham Lincoln. With Mother’s Day close by, surely few would want to take any argument with such feelings. Of course, the bond runs both ways, as Sophocles noted, more than two and a half thousand years earlier, when he said that: “Children are the anchors that hold a mother to life”.

The second Sunday in May is a day for revisiting great memories, as much as for making new ones. Gifts of flowers or chocolates are standard, but, as welcome as they are, they may fall a touch short in the long-lasting memory department.

Thankfully, artist David Crighton has an astonishing collection of Toronto art that would firm up current, or even rekindle old, memories for mothers who have lived for part or all of their lives in this great city. These feature unforgettable landscape art, as well as celebrating its architecture and stunning buildings, and many historical landmarks such as the awesome meeting of old with the new in this illustration of St Lawrence Market, featuring the Flat Iron building against a sensational Toronto skyline.

You might take mum back to her own days in education, with one of many such establishments featured in David’s collection. These range from key parts of the University of Toronto, such as the glass glory of the Botany Building, which has been moved to Allan Gardens . Maybe, your mother attended the Bishop Strachan or Havergal College, all girls prep schools in Toronto.

This renowned Canadian artist offers digital art, landscape painting, and unique cool art pictures and wall art ideas, that reflect both Toronto's changing lifestyle and history. If there is an area of the city, or even a single building, that means much to your family, then David may well already have captured its essence. This is true in his evocation of great venues such as the Cadillac Lounge (and do see if you can spot “tonight’s performer”)! Then there’s a collection of fun and hip restaurants, such as the Terazza's.

Among the many neighbourhoods brought to life in superb and uniquely quirky collages are Chinatown, Kensington Market , Queen St. West and so many more.

If you are not sure which one of the hundreds of images in this wonderful collection of Toronto art would mean most to your mother, then a gift card could be a terrific solution - leaving her the huge pleasure of taking the time to make her own special choice.

Of course, Mother’s Day is but one of so many occasions that Canadian art legend David Crighton can help you to celebrate. Whether for a wedding or anniversary, birthday or retirement, housewarming or graduation. Maybe as a memory of a key step on someone’s journey to success, perhaps to add that special personal touch to a bachelorette, David offers a range of stunning and affordable art as an unforgettable gift.
